The Silent Tree

It bustles around

With keen promises of words

Hanging like dead fruit

Adrift the swaying leaves

The Silent Tree

It sheltered my frame

With a hundred drops of shade

Casting spells of dark

Amidst the scorching sun

The Silent Tree

I climbed its branches

Making merry of the ground

My hands tools of skies

Beyond reach of the mind

The Silent Tree

We had carved its bark

With tomorrows nevermore

Basking in todays

In fading centuries

The Silent Tree

We had cut its branches

When dying sun passed away

Snuffed out like candle

Within eye of the Storm

The Silent Tree

We both watched it fall

Its roots decaying  tunnels

Where the rats ran free

Through eras of regret

The Silent Tree

Its hushed memories

Shivered within my bosom

When the moon sang shrill

With voiceless agony

The Silent Tree

I shake off its leaves

From desperate clinging arms

That embraced me tight

Before I emerged free

Grief squashes

All semblance of hope

The mind numb

Heart broken

Happiness a lost token

Of revolving times

Stilling mind

Whirling into space

Pitch balance

Zero point

Where everything is nothing

A change of vision

Joy washes

Memory of grief

Renewed fresh

Hope seeker

The mind attempts ways meeker

Turning a new leaf

Like a tree

Casting away leaves

Growing new

Extensions

We wage ways through pretensions

Society’s weight

Inside us

Silent observer

It watches

The motion

Lost to world and emotion

It shines in sun’s dust

They cling on

Heavens’ particles

Through bodies

That relay

The birthright’s lost miracles

Unbeknownst to most

Melting gold

Melting gold

12 June 2016

I composed

A song of perhaps

You and I

Eternal

A pair of humming birds free

Flight in the night’s sky

Decomposed

Flesh flung back at me

Bitter truth

Of this realm

The vanishing sweet corpses

Locked in death’s embrace

Illusion

Of mortality

Sank my heart

Then I heard

The voices singing the song

They sang beyond Time

Fading chant

Infused with the Love

Survived flesh

Burnt afresh

Cinders of memories flew

Back into motion

Emotion

Fanned by raging flames

Rekindled

The soul’s spark

If you hear not then do hark

Rising phoenix sings

You and I

Rotating dust specks

Settled in

Deep within

Where the core burgeoned again

Into soft petals

Purple bloom

On tree of whispers

Endless hum

Fills our cores

Deep in nooks of heart that stores

Carefree melodies

Ethereal

We rise through the airs

Whiff of scent

Hearts unbent

Pollinized sparkles of sun

Forming the true shape

Liquid frame

It rises from meld

Of the fires

Melting gold

Into crevices of rain

Eternal sunshine

Ascension

Into red passion

Mirrored stairs

Marble squares

The chest more than bosom bares

Naked enchantment

Mind fragment

Lost in broken tides

Twin dances

Take chances

With the rhythm of futures

That the Heart nurtures

Winding tree

Gathers momentum

Twenty-three

Locked heirlooms

Fluttering in hidden rooms

As the veils unfold

In the break of twin daylights

I love you

Yes I can’t not love

Your shadow

Within me

It builds a seed of morrows

Where giants pave roads

I love moons

That shine on widows

Covered face

Banished grace

Eyes that beat beneath the lace

With hundred sorrows

Tiny heart

Flutters in ribcage

Its shadow

Lost in Earth

Hurtling through an endless space

Between eye and lash

I sink slow

Within inner worlds

They spell voids

Galaxies

Limitless rainbows that curve

Around blue mountains

Inside me

There lies purple tree

It bears fruit

Red blue leaves

Remnants of bosom that heaves

With crust of the Earth

Within sight

There lies a lone star

She beckons

To New Worlds

Where sisters knit the white wombs

That will bear infants

The children

Their hearts make merry

Blue meadows

Glistening

The plains alive now ringing

With call of the wild

I love you

In infinity

Every face

Is your face

Your heart among every beat

Across blue valleys

I love you

Yet I cannot love

My heart lost

Forever

In the break of twin daylights

For I love the suns

When time comes

Back to the basics

The soul flocks

Remembrance

A tale of the pale gridlocks

That restricted Heart

What once was

Dissolved in nothing

Mere shadow

Of its might

With distance comes stronger sight

The age sets optics

Dioptric

Play on geometry

Focal point

Wavering

Youth but stubborn myopic

Prolonging blindness

Coarse regret

Now a grinning clown

Lips stretched pink

Heart goes down

Wandering with centipedes

No mind that impedes

Soothing air

Courses through my lungs

Wane threads stir

Clouds that sink

The knots in tips of the fir

As it battles skies

Hark now hear!

Through their constant cries

Chirping birds

Remind us

Of the roots that bore the tree

Taller than lifetimes

I seek art

Its twining effect

Wipes regret

White cloister

Inner beginnings bolster

I mingle with air

I am Time

Immemorial flow

Inner glow

Never blinds

The eye embraces all kinds

Of realms of glory

Wisdom speaks

But from open Heart

The mouth pale

Molded stale

Projections of shallow thoughts

Uttered unto lips

I hear Trees

Growing with new life

Beyond strife

End panic

The moves slow counter drastic

Measures of the spades

Within shades

The light grows silent

Slithering

Into sight

Fading past morrows delight

We walk on waters

Truth falters

On the brink of lies

Surging waves

Sweeping knaves

The kingdoms of past’s abyss

Their goal gone amiss

Remember

We used to talk soft

Hidden veils

Draped our frames

Before we learnt to play games

Of stony details

I breathe in

Summertime’s fancies

It rings wild

With sun’s heat

Postman rings thrice upon doors

Then admits defeat

We wiped floors

Our bodies intense

Locked in flames

Purple maze

We hold worlds but skins we graze

Touch of the shallow

Remember

We used to know hearts

They beat strong

Beneath veins

Blue bearing red they travelled

In inner landscapes

Map of stars

Fusion of twilight

Light and dark

Dull and spark

We are deep book of secrets

That some read aloud

I whisper

Sum of my numbers

In spirals

Within wells

The axe joins tree that it fells

As Time constricts me

Under the baobab tree

Under the baobab tree

12 January 2016

baobab

They loved each other dearly and met under the baobab tree, just a few meters away from marshes that ended the land belonging to his family. She was dark, he was white. She was a native and he had all the rights. They did not belong together, this they knew was their social plight. Their hearts spoke a different law though. It was under the bough rich of leaves and sunshine that they carved their love in stolen letters. It was under the moon silent and blue that they met at the feet of the baobab tree.

One day his mother saw him sneak out. She figured what that was all about and soon there would be no rendez-vous. She gave him and other members of the family a piece of mind or two. Bewitched he must be, was their conclusion. She surely used sorcery some powerful infusion for she was black and small while he was tall, strong and white and their love, really, was not quite right. The county decided it was time this should stop and never again another lad to quit crop.

They say she screamed and begged for her life but they knew better. Her mouth sewn the cries shut would let them go about their holy task unfettered. She burnt brightly and though her flesh cringed and peeled not a tear nor a sigh eye and mouth revealed. When he heard he hastened broke all chains threw himself on the pyre embracing her remains. They tugged and tugged at his free arm but his body remained locked to hers by a charm. He died arm extended head flung to the skies and it was then that she released those cavernous sighs. Fire caught the baobab tree that hung near and ashes breathed into the night once the fire had cleared.

Years later at that very spot a curious couple of baobab trees grew tight as in a pot. When you look closely you can still see the stitches on her mouth and his arm extended his head flung back to shout. The blue skies shine bright and nourish them with light for now they are together and will remain so forever. On moonlit nights, you can hear her sighs plaintive and low like a baby’s cries.
