## 📜 ORIGINAL POEM

This poem reflects on the loss of a loved one through twists of fate and the agony of the mind that accompanies such loss. It dwells upon the hope of tossing coins into wishing wells to retrieve that lost love and how at the end, even in the darkest moments, asking for angelic help can restore light or the alleviation of the suffering.

The years rolling by
Bring to memories lost Love
That stood its own ground

## ✍️ ADAPTED LYRICS

[Verse]
I thought it was built to last
but years rolling by so fast
brought to memories lost Love
that stood its own ground above

[Verse]
The clouds kissed slow and parted
leaving the threads that started
Intricate weavings of Fate
made moon shine again till late

[Verse]
What say you the doubts to quell?
Did you look into the well?
A lone penny dropped soundless
cast for our union to bless

[Chorus]
Concealing old pathways’ track
I wiped chalks’ inking so black
In the Peak of the Darkness
Feathers bore me Light access

[Verse]
I gathered piglets with coins
Fingers searched into their loins
broke their side on concrete world
tossed in vain more wishes hurled

[Verse]
Through the seen waters a spark
Looking glass sights dispelled dark
Hands grasped wisps of tomorrow
for an end to this sorrow

[Verse]
Dismembered blight thoughts rewind
turn to agony of mind
twisted downtrodden to heal
a wall of flashes to seal

[Chorus]
Concealing old pathways’ track
I wiped chalks’ inking so black
In the Peak of the Darkness
Feathers bore me Light access

More skulls in the ice to bury

More skulls in the ice to bury

I walked alone in ice-clad plains
my hands upwards met with black rains
my body from them filled with stains
for clouds never announced downpour

I dragged with me my memories
through highways carved in skulls with ease
the snow seeping from brow to crease
the faces long gone never shirked

My twin within me waved and smiled
She was a creature of the wild
Her charm all mankind had beguiled;
her tall stature kept them at bay

We spoke the language of the land
its heart beating under our hand
echo for those who understand
Will the Earth remember our names?

The ice heaved thrice under the sky
our wings fluttered eager to fly
we took a breath prepared to cry;
on cheeks crystals dropped so painful

From horizons came with flurry
black hordes running in a hurry
more skulls in the ice to bury
frozen lands cracked open to fire

The down on her lips
bristled at the sight of them
they coloured street lights

Her peach lips curled up
her face mask of amazement
her blushing cheeks taut

Her muscles strained locked
moving into position
her body knelt down

Every fiber lit
she tore through blooming flowers
fresh grass met her feet

She watched them fearful
her cheeks aflush from the run
her hair in cascades

They reached out to her
features glowing in the dark
heads covered in fuzz

I yearn for your untouched skin

I yearn for your untouched skin

I want to seep into your bones

like the chill of a winter night

I yearn for your untouched skin

its shadows now forever closed to me

like a book of secret pleasures

stowed away in a convent of nuns

With the yearning of a lifetime

I haul myself through summer

burdened by the winter’s pull

It hangs like dead leaves

fallen from a tree

where spring had once made its way

The fruit now lays barren untouched

like the skin of dead virgins

stopped in their tracks by an unknown war

their unseeing eyes swallowed

by the onslaught of darkness

I yearn for your untouched skin

Its light now a pale moon

rising in the midst of the hollow night

where only the waterhen cry

in a place I now call home

where the seagulls laugh no more

Whirring soft

the wheels in motion

gather moss

as they roll

They pick up speed, lose control

from the momentum

Target lost

Blind aim untoward

they gather

second stones

ready now to break the bones

intention resolved

The victim

hair flowing downward

pining teen

chained to Earth

all but chest above the floor

eyes seeing unseen

In some Muslim countries, the women guilty of adultery or even of having an affair without being married are buried in the ground and stoned with the obvious result being death in most cases. Sickeningly in some countries even the victims of rape may sometimes be sentenced in the same way as adulterers or women having an affair. This poem is written to raise awareness of the conditions under which even a young teenager who would have been free to love in other countries may incur the death penalty and be stoned to death for the “crime” of being caught with her lover in isolation. I chose to accompany this poem with a beautiful video showing elements from the cosmos to emphasize the gulf that separates some people from the vastness of the cosmos.

When the light dies out

When the light dies out

7 June 2020

Light is love

Darkness breeds the hate

We translate

Emotions

Anger is a reckoning

Of the love waning

Northern star

Life is within you

Embracing

Nothingness

I feel it your soft caress

Piercing through the veil

Hold me close

Within your bosom

Love to flout

All about

The darkness tends to blossom

When the light dies out

I know not

Spelling of distress

No more now

I Know how

I am no longer mistress

Of my own heart’s vow

A new leaf

Forgotten the grief

I packed bags

Gathered rags

Elevated to riches

From the keen stitches

Soul mended

Intention set North

I abide

By my rules

I will bow not to the fools

Only you come forth

Translation

Of movement in you

Lost in space

I retrace

Your body’s forgotten hue

The ink and the blue

When sun sets

I remember you

The sweet touch

Of your face

From a spent reality

In an unseen place

In eclipse

I reinvent you

Through the sight

In the night

When your features blurred in light

Rendering delight

I cling on

Like a wild creature

To the ghosts

Of future

Passing lines of your features

Relayed in outposts

Hopes in air

Redesigned by wand

The despair

Searing through

My looking glass as I scan

The road unraveled

Walk in pace

With me as I face

The swirling

Fail never

To whisper soft the reasons

Of changing seasons

Do you hear

The ocean shaken

It stirs blood

Through the flood

By the waves I awaken

On grounds mistaken

Emptiness

Of the chest that heaves

Fallen tree

Crestfallen

Gathering the flailing leaves

The mind soul deceives

Look yonder

Plains of the free lie

They rumble

With the cries

The millions’ uneven sigh

Their dreams fly in sky
