Shadows

Shadows in my life

I walk in the valley of shadow and doubt

I know not what life is all about

Though lips I have learnt to purse and pout

And sing to the tune of Schubert’s Trout

For I embark on life’s last ferry

And all around, within, seems dreary

Conjuring up moments so merry

I realize my heart’s too weary

Through fading faces I walk alone

Through shadows and pleasures that once shone

Unto my eyes, brought my lips a moan

It’s all gone now, is my heart of stone?

  1. beautiful…as you! Your poem reminds me of this song “Broken Stone”, Reamonn, listen to it, see if you agree..

    • Thank you. I first wrote the poem three years ago, after my separation with my husband. Since our divorce I have not had access to all my data so have rewritten slightly differently the poem.
